🇧🇷 BRAZIL RELOCATION GUIDE

Moving to Brazil, from a family that did it

We are an international family that moved from Europe to Brazil, and we live in Ceará today. Brazil offers warm weather all year, a low cost of living in USD or EUR, beautiful coastlines and accessible residency options. It also has real bureaucracy. Here's what you need to know.

Main visa & residency options

Digital Nomad Visa

Remote workers employed or contracted abroad

Requires proof of foreign income or savings. Renewable; does not lead directly to permanent residency.

Retirement Visa

Retirees with a stable pension

Based on a minimum monthly pension income. Leads to residency.

Investor Visa (business)

Investors in a Brazilian company

Invest R$500,000 in a new or existing Brazilian business (R$150,000 for innovation / R&D projects). Leads to residency for you and your family.

Real-Estate Investor Residency

Buyers of Brazilian property

Invest in Brazilian real estate: R$1,000,000, or R$700,000 in the North and Northeast regions (including Ceará). Leads to residency.

Family Reunion

Spouses/partners and children of Brazilians or residents

Often the simplest route if a family member qualifies.

Income and investment thresholds change. Always confirm current requirements with a Brazilian consulate or immigration lawyer.

Your first 5 steps

  1. 1

    Get your CPF

Brazil's tax ID. You need it for almost everything: renting, buying, a phone plan, a bank account. Can be requested from abroad.

  2. 2

    Choose your visa

Apply at a Brazilian consulate before you travel, or change status in Brazil for some categories.

  3. 3

    Register with the Federal Police

Within 90 days of arrival you register and receive your CRNM (foreigner ID card).

  4. 4

    Open a bank account

Much easier once you have a CPF and CRNM. Some digital banks accept foreigners earlier.

  5. 5

    Find your home

Rent first in the area you like, then buy. Always use a lawyer and check the property registry (matrícula).

Why Ceará?

Ceará, in Brazil's Northeast, offers sunshine year-round, constant trade winds and some of the country's best beaches. It's also one of the closest parts of Brazil to Europe and North America by air.
